Is operating a B&B for you? Come and find out at a class conducted for "inquiring minds" like yours. Find out just what you are getting into before you invest large amounts of money and time starting this new venture.

This seminar is designed to cover everything you need to know to start and operate a B&B. Operating a successful B&B may be more involved than you think, as a novice. What could be so difficult, right? There is a lot more to it than opening your "spare" room. This is a business and it takes time and commitment. Perhaps, in taking the course, you will find that this particular small business is not for you. Find out before you spend thousands of dollars and invest much of your time. It will be better in the long-run for you to take the time and make this small investment to find out if this is truly something you wish to do.

How do we qualify to teach the seminar? We have been in business since 1995 and have seen our numbers of room nights grow from 25 to over 300 per year. We have had guests from over 30 countries and we enjoy the people as much today as we did in the beginning.

Ethel taught this course for several years with Continuing Education, a division of the Edmonton Public School Board but later found there to be a need to hold a seminar over a weekend for those who want to attend from out of town. This does not barr the in-towners from attending but serves as a better opportunity to accomplish it all in one weekend.

Comment from former student: G.F. Stony Plain, AB "I received a lot of information in these two days. I think it is a very valuable workshop/course to have before developing a B&B. (Good reality check.) The material covered was detailed and thorough, presenter relaxed and comfortable with the presentation allowing good discussion about issues/concerns and "told it like it is."

Addtional comments from former students:

"A lot of good information to have from someone who has actually run a Bed and Breakfast for a lot of years. Some of the little things that aren't covered through other information channels were good to learn. Also, good to have the take-home booklet" RT. Westrose, AB

"Ethel's 'Want to Operate a Bed and Breakfast' training session covered all the bases. Everything from what to serve for breakfast to effective advertising. I highly recommend you let Ethel lead you through those first difficult steps in opening your B&B." D.F. Alix, AB

For me it was worthwhile to come to Edmonton for this course. It has given me lots of ideas on the clients I want and more info on the business aspect...I am pleased with all aspects of the course." B.M. Kamloops, BC

"Well presented, relaxed, humorous (a plus) and educational. Appreciated the directness.. Wow I have lots to do! J.R. Redwater, AB

"I learned so much! I had no idea what was involved. I am really glad to have taken the course so that I won't have as many surprises when I start my own business." P.C. Edmonton, AB

"A great overview of all aspects of the B&B Industry expressed, not only in reference to specific guidelines and standards of Alberta, but also in a candid and informal way well peppered with humour. Ethel brings home the art of Bed and Breakfast, of how necessary it is to maintain this humour and light philosophy to make a B&B a satisfying and rewarding livelhood or side interest. Fine people, good company and much appreciated is the book of such marvelous recipes!" J.H. Salmon Arm, BC
